CLAHRC for Greater Manchester delighted to employ three University of Manchester interns

The CLAHRC for Greater Manchester would like to extend a very warm welcome to the newest members of our team; Hester Benson, Astrid Born and Jack Adams. All three join us following their graduation from the University of Manchester, as part of the Manchester Graduate Internship Programme (MGIP).

Hester recently completed a degree in Psychology. Her main research interest involves care of stroke patients in the NHS, although whilst at university she was also involved in various studies that focussed on child language development. Whilst at CLAHRC for Greater Manchester she will be involved with the Greater Manchester Stroke Assessment Tool (GM-SAT) and Greater Manchester Heart Failure Investigation Tool (GM-HFIT) projects.

Astrid begins work with us after graduating with a degree in Pharmacology. She is really looking forward to getting stuck into projects which will directly benefit patients, something she became interested in during her degree studies. The work that Astrid will be supporting centres around the Greater Manchester Electronic Integrated Review Template (GM-ELIRT) and the Mental Health Medication Helper projects.

Jack has had an interest in the human body, health and disease from a very early age. As a young boy, he began collecting the ‘how my body works’ books and, later, took a keen interest in human biology at school and then at sixth form. He went on to study for a degree in Biomedical Sciences and thoroughly enjoyed his three years at Manchester, particularly being able to broaden his knowledge into new areas. Jack has previously worked as a Healthcare Assistant on an emergency assessment unit and also in a nursing home. He found delivering healthcare on the ‘frontline’ to be a fantastic experience and is now extremely excited about the prospect of helping to improve the quality of care in the NHS.
