CLAHRC provides posters to Withington Heart Help Group as a “thank you”

Greater Manchester CLAHRC has a long-standing relationship with Withington’s Heart Help Group and, to say a big “thank you” for their support, we have provided them with membership materials.

Posters, flyers and membership cards were presented to the group, who have been instrumental in helping with a number of CLAHRC projects, including the development of the heart failure alert card,  the heart failure management (GM-HFIT) work and the work to develop electronic assessment tools for people with long term conditions (the latter project is still in testing).

21 years supporting people with coronary heart disease

This year the group celebrate their 21st birthday, and an event will be held on 17 July at Withington Methodist Church to celebrate. The group is a cardiac support group formed by the members of a cardiac rehabilitation programme at Withington Hospital and, initially, only a small number of people met in a founder member’s front room in Chorlton. This progressed to around 25 members meeting at a Scout hut in Hough End where the primary focus of the group was very much focused on the social aspect of rehabilitation.

The group now has around 130 members, with 50-70 attending the group on a weekly basis. Members can share their experience with others, offer support, hope and encouragement, take part in exercise, help each other to regain confidence and hopefully return to a better quality of life.

To find out more about the CLAHRC for Greater Manchester’s heart failure work and electronic assessment tools please contact Lorraine Burey, Improvement Manager, and Trish Gray, Knowledge Transfer Research Fellow, respectively.
