East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust becomes our latest partner

We’re delighted to have established a new collaboration with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust which has now become an NIHR CLAHRC Greater Manchester partner. The Trust will be part of our end-of-lifewound care and stroke programmes of work through their role in providing community services in these areas.

Our end-of-life programme supports high quality end-of-life care in the community, preventing unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitating appropriate hospital discharges. To achieve this we’re already working with a number of NHS and charity provider organisations, with a distinct focus on supporting family carers at discharge and pathways of end-of-life care.

The projects within our wound care programme of work focus on enhancing quality of care and outcomes for people with complex wounds (sometimes referred to as chronic wounds) through the forming of collaborations to promote the development and use of evidence-based practice within NHS community services.

Our stroke work focuses on enhancing quality and coordination of care and outcomes for people affected by stroke, including stroke survivors, their carers and families. We currently work closely with the Stroke Association on several stroke-related projects.

Professor Ruth Boaden, Director of the NIHR CLAHRC Greater Manchester and Professor of Service Operations Management at the Alliance Manchester Business School, says: “By putting into practice locally-relevant research evidence, our end-of-life and wound care programmes build relationships and create new networks of community service providers. We’re thrilled to welcome East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust as a partner in our collaboration, and work is now underway to formalise our partnership and plan the specific projects that we’ll undertake together.”

Christine Pearson, Director of Nursing at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is always exploring ways to ensure we deliver the best safe, personal and effective care. We are very pleased to enter the partnership with the NIHR CLAHRC Greater Manchester, which will support us in putting research into practice to continually improve the services that we currently provide.”

More information about the partnership will be communicated when work plans are finalised. If you would like to find out how you or your organisation can get involved with the NIHR CLAHRC Greater Manchester please contact Joanne Thomas, Engagement and Networks Manager.
