The successful application referred to GM CLAHRC a number of times in terms of developing links between the new Centre and the CLAHRC, plus a number of CLAHRC researchers will be involved in this work. The successful bid was run by Dr Stephen Campbell, Reader in Primary Care at the University, and Professor Aneez Esmail. Dr Campbell said: “This is excellent news for the University and I’d like to thank everyone who helped with the bid. We have set out an ambitious programme of research and we will be working closely with our local communities of patients and primary care teams to ensure that areas such as identifying symptoms of cancer and rare diseases, prescribing and dispensing of medications, as well as the way multiple conditions are managed and care is co-ordinated, are improved and made safer.” Cathie Stokes, GM CLAHRC Manager, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved with this successful bid and we look forward to working with them in the future.” Funding for the new Centre is for five years, from 1 August 2012 to 31 July 2017 and Manchester is receiving £6,291,208 in funding. Manchester was one of only two sites in England to successfully obtain funding, with the other site centre being Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. More details of the award are available from the NIHR website.
