Join us: Current internship and fellowship opportunities for nurses and AHPs

Apply for our internship and fellowship opportunities to be a part of projects that make a real difference. NIHR CLAHRC Greater Manchester internships We’re able to offer six internships commencing in January 2016 for six months. The internships are available part-time for UK registered nurses and allied health professionals (AHPs) working in the community in the NHS in England who hold a relevant 2:1 or 1:1 degree and do not already hold a research Master’s degree or PhD. Funding covers 30 days salary backfill to the value of £7500 and £1000 educational programme fees. The purpose of the internships is to provide an introduction to research for those registered nurses and AHPs interested in pursuing a clinical academic career in the future. The internships comprise 30 days between January and June 2016 which will be spent within the NIHR CLAHRC Greater Manchester; five days will be spent participating in a structured educational programme with the other interns.   Specifically, the internships aim to develop skills in research, assist in the development of clinical skills, improve skills in promoting research in clinical practice, help the interns to decide whether they wish to pursue a career in research, and enhance interns’ ability to apply for further formal research training. This is achieved through i) experience of clinical academic research within the NIHR CLAHRC Greater Manchester, ii) mentorship, and iii) a structured educational programme. During the internship, interns will have introductions to, for example, formulating research questions, identifying appropriate research designs, searching and reviewing the literature, conducting research and presentation and written skills. By the end of the internship, interns will be required to write i) an academic report of 3000 words about one aspect of research which they have contributed to in their internship, ii) give an oral presentation, and iii) reflect on how their research skills have developed over the internship (3000 words). Applications for this opportunity closed on Wednesday 11 November 2015. Nurse academic fellowship We’re able to offer one 0.8WTE funded early post-doctoral (less than five years’ post-doctoral experience) nurse academic fellowship for one year commencing early 2016. This fellowship is available for UK registered nurses working in the community in the NHS in England. Funding covers backfill up to 0.8WTE. The Fellowship will enable the award holder to make an important contribution to clinical practice whilst supporting their development as a potential clinical academic leader. Over the course of the fellowship, and supported by a mentor, the successful candidate will be expected to increase their research skills in an aspect of our work, continue to develop their clinical skills, demonstrate increased independence as a researcher, submit articles for publications arising from their research and improve their generic management and leadership skills. They will also submit a 5000 word report outlining how they have achieved these expectations. Applications for this opportunity closed on Thursday 12 November 2015.
