We’re working with the Greater Manchester Academic Health Science Network to improve kidney health across the region
We’re delighted to be working in partnership with the Greater Manchester Academic Health Science Network (GM AHSN) to identify general practice priorities for kidney health. We’ll be gathering information from across Greater Manchester to determine the importance of kidney health to local Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and general practices, as well as assessing how chronic kidney disease (CKD) is diagnosed, recorded and managed in primary care. GM AHSN aims to spread innovative solutions at pace and scale in vascular care, so we will work alongside the organisation to deploy IMPAKT™ (a data analysis tool we have already developed and used) across general practices in Greater Manchester. These two activities will provide a basis for targeted and relevant improvement in care for patients. Ruth Boaden, Director of CLAHRC Greater Manchester and Professor of Operations Management at Manchester Business School, says, “This partnership is key in continuing CLAHRC Greater Manchester’s support to practices in identifying undiagnosed CKD and providing evidence-based care in the areas where improvement is needed. Installing IMPAKT will provide benefits across Greater Manchester and provide a better understanding of the challenges associated with interventions to improve kidney health”. Donal O'Donoghue, Medical Director at GM AHSN, adds: "One of our key priorities at GM AHSN is to reduce cardiovascular disease risk across our communities and this work will really help us be at the forefront of improving vascular health and reducing risk in one of our highest vascular risk groups – those with protein in the urine or reduced kidney function." The project will enable practices to improve the care of patients with CKD prior to the voluntary national CKD audit commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP), and funded by NHS England, to take place in 2015.
