The Research Engagement Network Development Programme  (REND)

Overview

In early 2023, The Greater Manchester NHS Integrated Care Partnership, working in collaboration with ourselves NIHR ARC-GM, the other GM NIHR research infrastructure and the GM Voluntary, Charity and Social Enterprise (VCSE) Leadership Group were awarded £100k from NHS England to test and evaluate the feasibility of a variety of approaches to grow local research networks to further develop a greater diversity of local participation in research.

The Research Engagement Network Development Programme is intended to be the learning phase of a longer, phased programme of support for ICSs, the research community, VCSE, and local communities to work more closely on research, building the blocks for strong partnership working.

The partnership focusses on:

  • Co-producing improved approaches for creative engagement and communication in partnership with VCSE organisations to build trust with communities currently more excluded from taking part in research.
  • Developing an improved network wide system for monitoring and evaluating diverse and inclusive involvement and participation in research within specific areas and communities where inequalities are most evident
