About Us

Find out about economics in the NIHR and what sub-groups the NIHR Economics Group will contain.

Economics in the NIHR

Economics has become firmly embedded within NIHR’s activities. It is one of the methodologies supported by the NIHR’s capacity-building activities and economists are now expected to be involved in most infrastructure, programme and project funding.

The NIHR has core areas of focus, including economic modelling, cost-effectiveness analysis, resource allocation and priority setting, and health technology assessment. Creating a network for health economists will allow its members to:

  • share best practice around NIHR economics areas of focus
  • provide details of ongoing and completed work
  • develop new collaborations.

Sub-groups

The NIHR Economics Group will have several sub-groups, many of which will involve NIHR Senior Investigators.

We are currently working to create sub-groups in these areas:

•    Capacity Building
•    Stakeholder and Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement
•    Social Care Economics Network (SCENE)
•    Economics of Safety Network
•    Mental Health
•    Economics in ARCs
•    Economics in BRCs/Healthtech Research Centres
•    Economics in PRUs
•    Global Health
•    Public Health
•    Evidence and Practice in Health Economics
