Research Internship


The internship is part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Undergraduate Internship Programme which aims to engage and attract students from underrepresented professions in the early stages of their academic studies to consider a career in health and social care research.

About this internship

We wish to appoint two talented, enthusiastic and self-motivated undergraduate students to complete a digital health research internship in the Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, School of Health Sciences, based at The University of Manchester. We have an opportunity to appoint one Nursing and one Midwifery student through this programme.

The internship runs for a total of up to 160 hours, typically over 8 weeks part-time (around 20 hours per week). However, there is flexibility to spread the hours over 12 weeks, with fewer hours per week, to accommodate study or placement commitments. The internship will take place between mid-October 2025 and 30 March 2026 under the supervision of Dr Norina Gasteiger.

Salary: Grade 5.1 pro rata; (£17.63 per hour)

Employment type: Casual

Hours per week: Up to 20 (equivalent to part-time for 8 weeks) with flexibility to spread the hours over a longer period (e.g., for 12 weeks). 160 hours total.

Eligibility

  • Nursing or Midwifery undergraduate students enrolled in a university in Greater Manchester who are in their second or penultimate year of study (e.g., year 2 of a 3-year programme, or year 3 of a 4-year programme).
  • Excellent skills in academic writing, critical thinking and a keen interest in digital health research.
