Research Training Opportunities for those working in Social Care and Social Work

The National Institute for Health and Care Research, Applied Research Collaboration Greater Manchester (NIHR ARC-GM) are delighted to announce several development opportunities for those working in Adult Social Care in Greater Manchester.

The opportunities, supported by the newly awarded NIHR Social Care Capacity Building funding, are designed for individuals seeking to advance their careers and gain research experience relevant to their area of practice.

We have three opportunities available:

  • Research Internships: for those who want to learn more about applied social care research and how this can benefit their own area of work. This award is an entry level opportunity which will be designed flexibly to suit the intern’s needs.

  • Pre-doctoral Fellowships: for those who aspire to undertake PhD level study. This award offers funded research time, academic supervision and excellent training opportunities to support the development of a doctoral fellowship application.

  • Research Champions: for those who have an interest in research and want to cultivate their skills as boundary spanners between social care and research. This award aims to support the promotion of research awareness, engagement and delivery across social care.

Dr Penny Lewis, Lead for Capacity Building, commented:

“These opportunities represent a fantastic chance for social care professionals in Greater Manchester to advance their careers while contributing to vital research in their field. Whether through flexible internships, pre-doctoral fellowships, or research champion roles, successful candidates will gain invaluable skills and support to combine social care practice with impactful research.”

Internship and Pre-doctoral Fellowships are backfilled up to £20,000 over 12 months.

The Research Champion role is funded 1 day a week over 12 months.
