Digital Health Inequities

What are we trying to do?

There is an expanding research community in Greater Manchester interested in understanding the impact of introducing new health and care digital health solutions on health inequities.

We are bringing together researchers from across disciplines at the University of Manchester, healthcare professionals from NHS trusts in Greater Manchester, and patients and public contributors to establish a collaborative programme of research on tackling digital health inequities.

Why is this important?

Digital health inequities are health inequities caused or exacerbated by introducing digital technology in health and social care settings. This is an increasingly important topic within health research and policy, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic showed how technology can affect people’s access to health services.

By mitigating the negative impacts of digital technology on health equity, and harnessing the positive impacts we will help everybody to benefit from digital innovations in healthcare, irrespective of their background and skills.

How are we doing it?

To bring together the research community, we are organising monthly seminars, as well as sharing case studies that illustrate how researchers are tackling digital health inequities in their projects.

To establish a collaborative programme of research, weare organising workshops to generate ideas and identify partners for funding applications that aim to understand and address existing digital health inequities across Greater Manchester and beyond.

Learn more about the programme by visiting the digital health inequalities section of the Christabel Pankhurst Institute for Health Technology and Innovation website.
