ARC Greater Manchester helps the NHS and local partners make better decisions by using the best available research.
Our work is to develop capacity in knowledge mobilisation (KM) – helping people find, share and use research. We work across NHS organisations and universities to build long‑lasting skills and partnerships, so this work continues and is in three main parts:
1. Giving the NHS quick access to useful research
We support NHS Greater Manchester by helping them find reliable, easy to use summaries of research on important health topics. There are two KM Fellows and one is a full time post within the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board (ICB).
2. Building KM skills in organisations with less research capacity
Some NHS providers in Greater Manchester have fewer resources for research. To help them build long term KM skills, we have recruited six KM Champions. This helps by:
- encouraging teams to pull research into their work
- making KM part of everyday practice
- helping researchers work more closely with the people who will use their findings
3. Supporting early career researchers
We help early career researchers understand what types of research information NHS partners need and how to respond to those needs. Our KM Fellows and Champions work with ARC Greater Manchester’s early career researchers, who offer support, tools, resources and training.
Knowledge Mobilisation Champions Programme
Why this programme matters
The Knowledge Mobilisation (KM) Champions Programme is helping Greater Manchester build a stronger, more confident evidence using system. It is:
- growing KM skills across services
- supporting better decisions in frontline care and strategic planning
- creating a culture where evidence is expected, understood and valued
- connecting people who do not usually have the chance to work together
By equipping practitioners, managers, researchers and policy teams with KM expertise, we are laying the foundations for long lasting change — improving care for our communities and helping Greater Manchester lead the way in evidence informed practice.
