Congratulations Iain - prestigious election to the American College of Medical Informatics

GM CLARHC are delighted to announce that Professor Iain Buchan, lead for the Health Information Systems Research theme (and lead for the Centre for Health Informatics in the Institute of Population Health) has been elected to the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI), which is the top mark of esteem in the field of Biomedical and Health Informatics. There are around 300 ACMI Fellows worldwide, but only three in the UK. Bonnie Sibbald, Director of GM CLARHC and Director of the Institute of Population Health said: “Not only is this an incredible personal achievement but it also further strengthens the Health Informatics agenda that is being developed and implemented both in GM-CLAHRC and with our European and US collaborators, which will all be formalised in the new £18M MRC Health eResearch Centre (HeRC). HeRC is due to open in March 2013 and will link with Harvard when it comes to professional development in clinical informatics and research into the trustworthy reuse of health data. The “trustworthy reuse” work is being expanded internationally under the support of the International Medical Informatics Association, led by a Steering Group of mostly ACMI Fellows and industry leaders.” ACMI is a college of elected Fellows from the U.S. and abroad who have made significant and sustained contributions to the field of medical informatics. It is the central body for a community of scholars and practitioners who are committed to advancing the informatics field.
