Greater Manchester Stroke Assessment Tool (GM-SAT) showcased at UK Stroke Forum Conference
Our Greater Manchester Stroke Assessment Tool (GM-SAT) team took part in this year’s UK Stroke Forum Conference, delivering a presentation and displaying a poster.
The UK Stroke Forum Conference is the largest multidisciplinary stroke event in the UK, attracting over 1400 delegates from across the stroke care pathway. This year’s event at Harrogate International Centre offered two training day streams for delegates to choose from, a variety of multidisciplinary parallel sessions and workshops showcasing the latest developments in research and stroke care, a broad range of national and international speakers, an opportunity to hear stroke survivors talk about their experiences, and over 60 exhibition and charity stands.
The team took the opportunity to network with other healthcare professionals and all those with an interest in stroke, learning about the latest research and developments across various topic areas. The event allowed those who work with or are affected by stroke to discuss best practice, clinical guidelines and pathways. This included the chance to discuss CLAHRC GM’s work on the GM-SAT, an evidence-based assessment tool that has been designed specifically for the six month post-stroke review.
GM-SAT encompasses a wide range of potential post-stroke care needs, from medication management and secondary prevention, through to mood and fatigue. Together with its supporting materials, it provides everything needed to undertake a six month review, from the questions to ask within the review and algorithms to guide care, through to documentation for recording and communicating review outcomes to other professionals involved in an individual’s care.
Katy Rothwell, CLAHRC GM Knowledge Transfer Associate, delivered an invited presentation about the ‘hidden aspects of stroke’. The presentation looked at the psychosocial needs that stroke survivors encounter in the long-term after their stroke, drawing on evidence from CLAHRC GM’s work on six month post-stroke reviews.
