Royal College of GPs Announces Partnership with CLAHRC GM to Make AKI a Key Priority
The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) has announced it will be working in partnership with the National Institute for Health Research Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care Greater Manchester (NIHR CLAHRC GM) to improve the recognition of and response to Acute kidney Injury (AKI) in primary care in 2017.
Each year, the RCGP Clinical Innovation and Research Centre (CIRC) takes on new clinical priorities and highlights Quality Improvement projects to champion specific clinical areas for its 50,000 members. Through collaboration with GPs and clinicians working in primary care, the RCGP Quality Improvement projects seek to produce resources which will be of real benefit to members.
NIHR CLAHRC GM is set to work in collaboration with Think Kidneys and Kent Surrey Sussex Academic Health Science Network (KSS AHSN) on the RCGP AKI Quality improvement project. The collaborative project will aim to support RCGP members and their practice teams in the identification and appropriate management of patients suffering from Acute Kidney Injury throughout the UK by producing reliable and informative resources.
CLAHRC GM’s Kidney Health Programme Lead, Dr Tom Blakeman, a practising GP and Think Kidneys team member, will be the Clinical Lead on the project. He commented: “This is a great opportunity for us to work together to expand the resources available for primary care to help in the prevention, detection, management and treatment of AKI. This partnership with the RCGP provides an opportunity to build on the work carried out over the past three years. Taking an approach that is grounded in everyday clinical practice, it offers the potential to develop resources that support the implementation of best practice.”
