Social Care and Social Work Research Training and Development Opportunities


Application information for Research Internships and Pre-doctoral Fellowships 2025

Staff from across health and care organisations in Greater Manchester are encouraged to apply to this year’s research Internships and Pre-doctoral Fellowships. Both opportunities are available to those interested in developing their knowledge, skills and experience in applied health and care research.​​

Graduates from a range of professional backgrounds from the NHS, Local Authorities and third sector organisations are eligible, including:

  • Nursing
  • Midwifery
  • Allied health professionals
  • Social work
  • Social care
  • Public health
  • Commissioning
  • Policy making

Medics, dentists and those from private providers are not eligible to apply.

Applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender, gender expression, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status are welcomed. All appointments are made on merit.

Pre-Doctoral Fellowships

Pre-doctoral Fellowships are an opportunity for those wishing to apply for a PhD to develop their research experience and spend dedicated time (up to 0.5FTE over 12 months) on their application for doctoral funding.

Backfill funding up to a maximum of £20,000 plus a £2,000 training budget is available to successful candidates.

 

 

Internships (Health Care Professionals) 

Research Internships are an entry-level opportunity for those who have little or no research experience. Internships allow staff 30 days, taken flexibly over four to 12 months, to undertake research training and contribute to existing research projects.

A £1,000 training budget is available to successful candidates, as well as the potential to undertake a Masters level research module with supervisory support.
