From Piano to Public Health: My Unplanned PhD
Lily Mott is a third-year PhD student in the Healthy Ageing Research Group (HARG) at Manchester, funded as part of a unique partnership between Dunhill Medical Trust, NIHR ARC-GM, The University of Manchester and NIHR Policy Research Unit in Healthy Ageing.
Lily previously worked with NIHR ARC-GM as a Project Support Coordinator before beginning her PhD. With a background in the arts, she transitioned into public health research and is currently developing an intervention to reduce sedentary behaviour in older employees who work from home.
In this blog, Lily reflects on her path into academia, overcoming imposter syndrome, and navigating career uncertainty. She also offers advice for those considering a PhD.
