Social Care

We are working with Social Care and Social Work partners, and local NIHR infrastructure across Greater Manchester to conduct high-quality research to produce new knowledge, whilst building and strengthening adult social care research capacity, research awareness and utilisation.

Social Care

Working closely with the NIHR School for Social Care Research funded Social Care and Society team, the NIHR Clinical Research Network's Enabling Research in Care Homes (ENRICH) team, and local Greater Manchester social care and social work partners, to ensure that social care research is embedded across NIHR ARC-GM.

Social Care is a key strategic focus for NIHR and improving the lives and health of older people living in care homes is a major UK government priority,  but there are considerable challenges to conducting research outside of traditional NHS healthcare settings.

Our work with social care partners and care homes looks to address these challenges through:

  • Increasing the opportunities for care homes to take part in research;
  • Developing research capacity and utilisation of research within social care and care home settings;
  • Continuing to develop the evidence base to inform and improve adult social care practice in England by conducting internationally leading research and evaluations.
